Short Description
- Plans, supervises, and implements the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school, state requirements, Grow NJ Kids, NAEYC Accreditation criteria.
- Gears the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for his/her interest, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning. Prepare child evaluations and conduct parent conferences twice a year or as necessary.
- Maintains the order, arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom. Performs the general housekeeping tasks of the classroom per policy.
- Implement methods for effectively training and utilizing the services of classroom assistants.
- Plans and implements method positive liaison with parents of the students. Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
- Participates in the recommended training programs, conferences, Courses, and other aspects of professional growth. Completes 20 hours of continued staff development as required by Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers 10:122-4.7. Keeps CPR/First Aid certification current.
- All other duties as assigned
Experience Required
- One year of teaching experience in a group program for children under the age of five.
- This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
- Must have knowledge of appropriate developmental skills for children ages 3 months to 4 years of age.
- Ability to logically and independently plan and organize work assignments.
- Interpersonal skills must be well developed.
- Should possess the initiative and ability to set and achieve high standards of performance.
- Ability to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
- Must possess analytical, problem-solving skills, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, orally and in writing.
- Ability to learn specific job duties and complete detailed work assignments.
- Extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
Education Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development preferred
License/Certification Requirements
- Child Development Associate (CDA) or Group Teacher Endorsement from the New Jersey Professional Development Center for Early Care and Education required.
- The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of Early Childhood Education or Development and must be able to meet the requirements of the licensing agency.
