Short Description

The Instructional designer prepares, presents and maintains IT system user training that results in a well-educated and prepared workforce.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Creation of training materials for IT systems
    1. Conducts system training needs assessment by collecting information pertaining to system design, work procedures, workflow, and reports; understanding job-specific functions and tasks.
    2. Develops training materials, presentations, scripts, user manuals, policies/procedures and reference materials that serve the various user roles for computer systems.
    3. Utilizes training tools, such as Captivate, WebEx and Easy Test Maker, in the generation of electronic training classes and materials.
    4. Design, develop and update training curriculum including but not limited to classroom, individual and eLearning modules.
    5. Proactively maintain and continuously update training materials.
    6. Develop and maintain all training related policy and procedure related documentation.

  1. Effectively present IT training materials in a classroom setting
    1. Conducts classroom training sessions; presenting role specific instruction.
    2. Demonstrates institutional knowledge of clinical/financial systems and how they are used to support operational functions.
    3. Effectively manages classroom time, and adherence to class agenda to ensure topic coverage.
    4. Manage class participant behaviors; seeks lead assistance when needed. 

  1. Supports organizational Process Improvement
    1. Serve as a liaison between end users, subject matter experts and technical support.
    2. Conduct observations of users in their environment and document workflow design, to identify areas for improvement and suggestions for workflow redesign.
    3. Participates as IT representative on committees and task forces as needed.

  1. Training administration
    1. Creates and publishes training schedules.
    2. Secures and prepares training classroom, and class materials.
    3. Support the training registration process and develops class rosters.
    4. Validate completion of training prerequisites.
    5. Validate that user login credentials are generated.
    6. Set up and populate electronic training environment.
    7. Document training attendance and test scores.
    8. Follow the procedures for notifying user provisioning when a user has successfully completed their training; when training completion is required prior to enablement of user login credentials.

  1. Testing
    1. As needed, participates in system test script execution in support of new systems, new functionality and system upgrades.
    2. As needed, supports end users during the execution of User Acceptance Testing.

  1. Skills testing
    1. Design and develop comprehensive testing strategies and artifacts to validate training participant comprehension and preparedness.
    2. Conduct classroom post training testing.  Assign on-line testing for eLearning’s.
    3. Notify appropriate managers, if training participants are not able to pass their post training tests.
    4. Where appropriate, develop Annual reassessments, to determine training material retention and determine if retraining, tip sheets, or other support tools are warranted.
    5. Leverage information and trends observed through post training assessments to improve upon and expand existing training strategies.

  1. Assist with Go-lives
    1. Support major system go-lives, through direct users support, super users programs or development of “just in time training” materials.

  1. Training best practices
    1. Seek to learn and expand personal knowledge of adult education principles.
    2. Develop conceptual and practical understanding of various training techniques for users with various learning styles.
    3. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
    4. Obtain and maintain product certifications as required for assigned training responsibilities.

  1. Monitor and maintain the quality of the training program
    1. Seek continued improvement of the overall training program through continued evaluation of the curriculum.
    2. Conduct employee surveys and interviews.
    3. Seek to expand scope of training materials and the formats for the delivery of training.
    4. Regularly consult with business leaders to evaluate their changing training needs.

Scope, Purpose, and Frequency of Contacts:

Frequent interaction with business owners, IT staff and organizational leadership. Instructional Designer schedules may be temporarily modified in order to accommodate the needs of our participants and minimize negative impact on clinical/business operations.


Experience Required

3 years’ experience in training, Information Technology, Healthcare Operations, or 1 to 2 years as super user or trainer for EMR/EHR deployments.


Education Requirements

High School Diploma Required

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Hourly Rate Min $34
Hourly Rate Max $56

The New Jersey Pay Transparency Act requires disclosure of the pay range for this position.

A salary offer will vary based on the job role, candidate experience, qualifications, internal pay equity and market data.
