Short Description

Neuro Radiographer will support the expanding technology needs of complex Neurosurgery and Neurologic diagnostic and intervention procedures in the Neuro lab and hybrid Surgical suite. Otorhinolaryngology (and other services as needed) cases in the operating room.

This clinical / technical position will be hands on with the multiple imaging / navigations systems (Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vison Sense, VTI) used to guide surgeons in complex head and spine procedures as well as ultrasound and injector technology used for Vascular and Neurologic diagnostic procedures and interventions. The Technologist will assess technology needs for the day related to CPT codes and procedures scheduled and ensure equipment readiness. They will proactively manage schedules, identifying needs and conflicts for technology. Pre procedure activities will include, pulling or loading of images into the systems so they are available as reference during the procedure. Intra-procedural activities include and are not limited too, operating specialized equipment, familiarity of specialized supplies for use in diagnostic and interventional procedures Post procedure activities will include the movement of data from the navigation system, management of equipment within the physicial space. – folders, database, etc.  The technologist is responsible for monitor inventory and replacement of specialized  supplies The technologist role contributes to successful execution and has a significant impact on surgical, diagnostic and interventional procedures including, assisting in troubleshooting and use of complex equipment intraoperatively thereby allowing surgeon to remain focused on the patient; performing post procedure processes also allowing the surgeon to remain with the patient, minimizing scheduling conflicts, and decreasing delays due to parallel processing

Responsibility

  • Operates radiology equipment using proper techniques and patient positioning to produce high quality images
  • Maintains radiology equipment and troubleshoots service problems and makes necessary service calls and communicated any issues to incoming staff
  • Greets patient, identifies self and interacts with patient to gain trust and insure patient support .  Explains procedures to patient prior to exam • Performs procedures consistent with section protocols Monitors patient status, tolerance, well-being, and safety throughout and after procedure • Always verifies patient identity prior to exam and insures preparation of room for procedure prior to patient arrival • Aids radiologists, doctors and other UPHS team members in completing procedures according to applicable protocol • Responds to emergency situations according to department/hospital policies • Ensures patient safety using binders and safety aides at all times
  • Performs quality assurance testing consistent with section protocol
  • Operates ancillary equipment needed to perform examination and take care of patients needs
  • Stays current with new technology and procedures consistent with section protocols
  • Responsible for supporting neurosurgery and ENT operating room cases that utilize the Stealth® and Brain Lab Systems®, Fusion, Vision Sense and VTI
  • Set up neuro/oto cases by loading and merging of images in multiple systems and pre use check of all imaging equipment
  • Intraoperatively, this position will perform registration routines (computerized mapping of the surgical site). After registration, the tech will merge the mapping with the previous scans to complete the imaging plan. • Saves and maintain the repository for stealth scans, download and maintain a database of videos and images from the microscope, O-arm and multiple navigation systems, and edit images/ videos as needed. • Performs post processing for all angio/ interventional procedures and maintains appropriate data storage
  • Ability to troubleshoot and assistant surgeons with technical issues related to the systems and the case

Overview

Cooper’s Neuroscience Unit is a 16 bed ICU paired with a state-of-the-art Neuro Interventional Suite, that together form an integral part of Cooper Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our nurses provide expert neurological care in both settings to ensure seamless continuity of care for our patients across a wide range of neurological diagnoses. With the most advanced technology and providers, Cooper expands capabilities to care for neurological patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The healthcare professionals take tremendous pride in teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, we provide outreach to bring stroke and neurological education to improve community health.


Experience Required

0-2 years experience required

Experience in scrubbing and assisting physician in the performance of Neurovascular Interventions


Education Requirements

High School/GED and Associates degree-Graduate of AMA approved program for Diagnostic Radiology 


License/Certification Requirements

BLS certification from American Heart Association required, American Registry Radiology Tech license required, NJ Radiology Tech License required

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficient in multiple imaging, ultrasound and neuro navigation systems, such as Siemens, Sonosite, Power Injector, Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vison Sense, VTI. Navigation systems are used to guide surgeons in complex head and spine procedures.
  • Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers

Special Requirements

full time days, 40 hours a week. 

4 10 hour shifts

Hours: 6:30a-5p

on call rotation with 30 mins response time
