Short Description

The Leave Specialist is responsible for providing administrative support to the Leave of Absence Benefits team. The role involves managing and setting up leave of absences for various employees across the organization, including but not limited to FMLA, NJFLA, ADA Accommodations and Workers Compensation.

The LOA Specialist is the first point of contact to establish leave setup, tracking, maintenance, and approvals of both continuous and intermittent leaves. The Leave Specialist frequently interacts with employees, management and other internal and external stakeholders to manage the leave. Manual weekly/monthly reporting and filing is a main component of this role. Some of the administrative functions of this role will be via phone calls & email communication, requiring excellent customer service skills.

The Specialist will use Microsoft systems, particularly Word and Outlook, and will also utilize Cooper’s leave management system for entering intermittent leave time and processing approvals/denials/incomplete letters for all leave types.

Experience Required

3-5 years HR or general business office experience.  Benefits or HR generalist/specialist experience a plus.  Experience with Federal Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA), Americans Disability Act (ADA), Interactive Process under the ADAAA, and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD) strongly preferred.  Effective organizational, analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills.


Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.


License/Certification Requirements

SHRM certification a plus.


Special Requirements

Thorough knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook required.  Knowledge of Leave Management systems preferred
