Short Description
Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant)– Orthopaedic Access Clinic
The Cooper Bone & Joint Institute is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Orthopaedic Access team. This role serves as the entry point for patients with new musculoskeletal concerns, providing timely evaluation and treatment while ensuring patients receive the right care from the right specialist.
The Access APP functions similarly to orthopaedic urgent care, evaluating patients with acute injuries as well as urgent exacerbations of chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary orthopaedic team, the APP will perform comprehensive assessments, order and interpret diagnostic testing, develop treatment plans, provide procedures within scope of practice, and coordinate referrals to the appropriate subspecialty service when indicated.
Responsibilities include:
- Evaluate patients presenting with acute and urgent musculoskeletal conditions.
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations.
- Order and interpret imaging and other diagnostic studies.
- Develop treatment plans and provide non-operative management when appropriate.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice (splinting, injections, wound care).
- Identify conditions requiring urgent surgical or specialty consultation.
- Coordinate seamless referrals to orthopaedic subspecialists.
- Educate patients regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, APPs, nursing, therapy, and ancillary services.
This position offers a fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to the full spectrum of orthopaedic subspecialties while playing a key role in improving patient access and ensuring timely, high-quality musculoskeletal care.
Experience Required
Orthopedic experience is highly preferred.
Education Requirements
Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or a Master's in Nursing.
License/Certification Requirements
New Jersey Physician Assistant; Physician Assistant - NCCPA & Assistant; American Heart Association BLS
Special Requirements
Scheduled Days / Hours: Full time
