Short Description

The Cooper Senior Systems Network Admin’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions.  This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems.  The Senior Systems Network Admin will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs, maintains and monitors server hardware, network operating systems and application products.  Systems software including, but not limited to, Active Directory, Domain Naming Service, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Service, Systems Management Server, Server IP addresses, VMWARE, Windows, Group Policy, Virus Scan software, Remote Administration software, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, backup servers and server based application products
  • Coordinates and performs upgrades to server hardware, network operating systems, databases, and server based applications
  • Performs server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
  • Integrates servers, including database, e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems
  • Ensures system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems
  • Plans, documents, coordinates and performs disaster recovery testing to ensure integrity and recoverability of all LAN based hardware, software and data
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and parts as well as documentation of vendor activities
  • Ensures server data is secure from unauthorized access
  • Performs light programming (usually scripting, which involves writing programs to automate tasks)
  • Ensures server availability compliance to Service Level Agreements
  • Addresses operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts and installing applications
  • Promotes and maintains server patch management practices for both applications and operating system software
  • Monitors and tunes LAN based systems to maximize performance
  • Provides metrics for capacity management purposes
  • Monitors server load and implements load balancing where appropriate
  • Keeps up-to-date on industry trends and continuously enhance professional expertise and knowledge


  • Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems
  • Monitors and tests system performance; prepares and delivers system performance statistics and reports


  • Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems when deemed necessary


  • Develops and documents system standards for computer and network devices
  • Maintains documentation, including but not limited to: server hardware, software, network operating systems, server based applications and configurations
  • Documents computer security and emergency measures policies, procedures, and tests


  • Supports Customer Support Center and Technicians with projects and daily problem resolution
  • Supports Server Analysts with their projects and tasks
  • Provides after-hours support as required
  • Supports other groups to resolve problems and issue

Special Requirements

High School Diploma

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in computer and server hardware installation, maintenance, and repair.

Strong analytical, technical and troubleshooting skills required. 

Customer focus and positive, can-do approach is critical.

Must have good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

MCSE, MCP, VMWare, Citrix Certifications Preferred.
