Briefly explain the job’s overall objective:
The Clinical Database Coordinator :

· Coordinates the chart abstraction and data entry into the appropriate NICU clinical databases

· Identifies, obtains and analyzes data from hospital sources and systems to create ongoing and ad hoc performance reports in support of organizational requirements, goals and objectives in the areas of:

o Quality and Performance Improvement

o Patient Safety

o Clinical Outcomes

o Regulatory reporting

· Presents data graphically and in a concise, timely manner.

They will provide excellent customer service and serve as a resource to other departments within Cooper University Health Care. The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing is mandatory.

They will provide data reporting for mandatory reportable registries, quality indicators; and outcomes for programs, services and service lines.

They will demonstrate basic knowledge of quality control procedures and practices within a

hospital environment. Additionally, they must have knowledge of data collection techniques, performance improvement methods and tools (e.g., Rapid Cycle PDSA, Lean Six Sigma).

They will customize, maintain, and revise dashboards in alignment with regulatory,government, and Cooper’s

mission and vision standards. They will be responsible for abstracting clinical data elements from patient records as required by: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), New Jersey State Quality Improvement Organization, or other state and federal regulatory agencies. They will maintains a current knowledge base regarding all regulatory updates, including, but not limited to: glossary specification changes and additions, Core Measures and their elements, as per the Specification Manual.Current knowledge base is demonstrated via documentation, validation and Inter-Rater Reliability scores.

Reliability scores.

Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements and standards is preferred.

They will demonstrate the ability to write reports containing technical and clinical information.

Special Requirements:


Scheduled Days / Hours: Mon. thru Fri. days;

Education:

Associates Degree required in a health related field, public health, computer science, medical record abstraction/coding. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum one year experience in hospital, pediatric or neonatal department, newborn or pediatric clinic, clinical research or medical records.

Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.Analytical and quantitative skills related to collecting, organizing and summarizing various levels of data essentia

Computer and Internet experience required, familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Office products is essential for success in this position (Word and Excel-required; PowerPoint and Access preferred).

Required License/Certifications/ Registration:

NJ Registered Nurse License.RHIT, Coding Certificate preferred for non-nurse

Other Qualifications:

Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.

Ability to interact with all members of the clinical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Must demonstrate ability to customize, build data reports, and clinical outcome dashboards independently.

Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.

Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
